Guardians!
At Hamilton Farm Doodles, we treat our dogs like cherished members of the family. By incorporating Guardian Homes into our program, we've been able to grow and ensure our dogs receive the best care in loving homes, and maintain a kennel-free environment!
A Guardian Home offers qualifying families the opportunity to raise one of our dogs without the cost of purchasing a high-quality breeding dog. In this arrangement, the family agrees to care for and raise one of our breeding dogs throughout their breeding career. Once the dog's breeding days are over and they are spayed or neutered, full ownership is transferred to the Guardian Home.
Guardian Homes are responsible for providing a loving environment, routine veterninary care, keeping the dog up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and offering proper training and socialization - basically, the same responsibilities as any dog owner! Meanwhile, Hamilton Farm Doodles covers all breeding-related expenses. One added perk is that we offer free boarding for your breeding dog, if space is available.
Female guardian families must notify us as soon as their dog goes into heat. The female will be away from the guardian home for the initial breeding, which may last 2 -5 days. Afterward, she will return to the guardian home until she is about 2 months pregnant. At that point, she will stay with us for 8-9 weeks to whelp and raise her puppies, before being returned to her guardian home. Once she has completed the agreed-upon number of litters, we will cover the cost of her spaying, and she will be returned to the guardian home to live out the rest of her happy life!
For male guardian dogs, once health testing is complete and we confirm he's officially part of the Hamilton Farm Doodle breeding program, we will notify the guardian family as soon as possible. Typically, our males begin breeding between 1 and 5 years old. While we strive to give as muc hnotice as we can, sometimes we may only have 1-2 days' notice - so clear and prompt communication is essential. In some cases, male guardians may be used 2-3 times a month, or not at all for several months. When needed, males may be away from the guardian home for 2-5 days at a time or occasionally return the same day. Once the male has completed the agreed-upon number of years in the program, we will cover the cost of neutering, and he will be returned to the guardian family to enjoy the rest of his happy life!
