guardian home

Our guardian program has been such a blessing and help to our breeding program as well as a great benefit for our guardian families. A guardian dog is a high-quality puppy/dog that lives with their guardian family.  The guardian family must be approved through our program and be able to provide a loving and responsible home, the same requirements as a pet home puppy, for the guardian dog. The guardian dog goes to it's family at no cost, and we retain breeding rights for a prearranged number of times (years for a male) and full-ownership goes to the guardian family when this agreeement is completed.  This is not a program for those interested in breeding themselves, but rather someone interested in supporting our program

The reason for our guardian program is simply because we believe every dog deserves to be a loved member of a family rather than be kenneled. Our guardian puppies/dogs have been genetically tested, have OFA hips and elbows done, and receive the same exposure to the BadAss Breeder Curriculum that all our puppies have.  Guardian families must live within 3 hours from us and two hours from us for males. (A family located near or in Chicago would also be considered for a male.)

A guardian home is responsible for the 'regular' pet costs that come with a dog.  They care for grooming, food, routine veterinary costs and vaccinations, puppy gear, ect. Hamilton Farm Doodles is responsible for all breeding costs such as breeder related vet visits, progesterone testing, genetic testing, semen evaluation, ect.

A guardian family must have the time, energy, and financial ability to keep the guardian dog in good physical and mental condition and must keep up with the maintenance of their coat. (Grooming every 6-8 weeks for doodles.)

Guardian families must have a physical or invisible fence.

Guardian homes are required to send us updates and pictures and must be able to have an open and friendly relationship with us as well. Female guardian home owners must notify us of the onset of a heat cycle, whether we will breed that cycle or not. For male guardian homes, we need to have the flexibility to pick up the male at short notice if necessary.  Usually we can give some advance notice, but there is not a guarantee. If the guardian family is going out of town, we must also know that in advance, so we can make arrangements should we have breeding plans for the dog during that time. When possible, we also would like the option of watching our guardian dogs when their owners go on vacation. This keeps us connected to our guardian dog and also insures a safe and loving place for them to stay while their family is on vacation.

We believe strongly in training your guardian home puppy! We want your guardian family dog to be a respectful, obedient, and likable member of your family! For this reason, guardian families must also be willing to attend an in person training course with their puppy.  We reimburse for training. The guardian family must also teach and keep up with basic obedience like sit, stay, come, ect.  for the remainder of the time of the guardian home agreement.

What are the Requirements?

  • All other dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered
  • Must be willing to do basic training with puppy and attend an in person training course (We reimburse)
  • Live 3 hours or less from Buda, Illinois (females)
